Halloween!

Hey =)

Today was Halloween! It was a fun day :)

We went to school as usual since it’s Tuesday, and we worked on our LA assessments in the morning and then some math after break. After lunch, though, a bunch of people were working on the haunted house, so since there was barely any people left in the classroom, we just went on the computers.

Then a bunch of people went to the Haunted House at the Rifle Range. It was just one big room so I thought it wouldn’t be scary at all, but once you went in they had it divided into a bunch of rooms and it was scary…wow. There was people lying on the floor and they really did look dead, and people jumped at you and grabbed you. There were people’s heads in the wall and it was soo freaky. It had like powder stuff for fog and it looked spooky. There was this one table and when you walked by it someone’s head popped out :| . Then at another table there was a mad scientist operating on a body. I was walking by the table and the body like jumped up…it was the scariest part, or to me it was. There were people in masks jumping everywhere at you and there was fake blood all over them…it was super scary. I was freaked out. Some people were even crying when they came out, and others wouldn’t even go in!

Then at 5:30 I went trick-or-treating with Toni and Michael W. We did a lot of houses by walking, but then we phoned Toni’s dad for a ride. We did some houses uptown and that was pretty much it. Haha, when we were getting out of the truck I had two bags and I left one in the truck on the floor. Michael was getting out of the truck and he tripped on the bag and fell out of the truck and hit his leg on his bag of treats with a bunch of hard cans of pop in it :P . It was priceless. He was mad at me and Toni for laughing at him, but we couldn’t stop; it was soo funny! Kind of one of those you-gotta-be-there moments. And then we were going to Dustin’s house, and when we were leaving and after we got our candy and stuff, there was this lump lying on the ground.. we walked by it.. then Dustin’s brother Brady jumped out of it and screamed :| Wow it was so scary, I screamed so loud, haha. Then when we went to Mr. Fisher’s house, as soon as he opened the door and saw us, he shut it again :P . He was just kidding though; he gave us candy in the end. It was funny, because we sang for him, haha. That’s pretty much the best stuff that happened tonight, or at least the funniest. I was a flamingo for Halloween, and so was Toni. The flippers that go around my feet for the flamingo’s feet have holes in them, though :( . I have to sew it. Michael was a hobo.

Everyone’s house was decorated great, and everyone who gave out candy had awesome stuff, so thanks to everyone who handed out candy! I can’t wait until next year…I’m trick-or-treating all the way up to grade 12 :P .

Last night we also had a Halloween Dance, it was so much fun! Everyone had really cool costumes and it was a really good time. Toni went in her flamingo costume, but I only wore cow ears. I don’t like wearing huge costumes to dances. I like how they played more slow songs this time. I think they should because I think pretty much everyone likes dancing with guys/girls :P . I danced with Tanner, Michael T., Dustin twice, Jace, and Tyler for like ten seconds, haha. At pretty much every dance, everyone gets in two lines, and the song ”Busta Move” plays. People dance down that line and people watch them! Me and Shyla went in it! I went on her shoulders. I was falling off, haha, but it was still a lot of fun! It was overall a really good night! I love dancing, both fast and slow :)

Info Aesthetics

Hey =)

I found a pretty interesting post on the blog, Info Aesthetics, about the Ambient Clock. I decided to tell you a bit about it!

The Ambient Clock is based on the data from the Google Calender. The background colour will change depending on appointments, the black bars on the outside mean scheduled events, and the small dots show the according drive times.

I think this clock is a really good idea. If you are a forgetful person, it should help out a lot. I’ve provided a link to this blog at the beginning of this post, so click on it if you want to know more about this clock. Info Aesthetics also has a lot of other information about new stuff in the world, and it may interest you.

RED Campaign

Hey =)

Mr. Fisher told us this week in school that we had to write two posts about our Required Readings in our Bloglines accounts. It took me a while but I’m going to try and do both of them now.

I decided to do a post on the Red Campaign. I found this post on the Nata Village Blog in Africa, I suggest you read it. It’s really well written!

Bono, from the band U2, asked companies to make a red product and give a portion from the money they made from that product to fight AIDS in Africa. I think this is a really good idea, because there are so many people dying from AIDS, and hopefully this campaign will help to stop it!

 Look at that iPod Nano! It’s red! Did you know $10 of people’s purchases of this product will go to fighting AIDS? I think that a red iPod Nano is an excellent idea, because more and more people everyday are buying iPod Nanos. Want to know more about this? Click here.

 These outfits were designed by Gap Clothing. I think this was another good idea, to make red clothing, because I know that a lot of people buy from Gap. Hopefully a lot of money from these red articles of clothing will go to fighting AIDS!

 Oh…my…gosh! I love these shoes! I have a pair of black and white converse shoes, but I must say…these are pretty awesome too. I’d buy them in a heartbeat! Oh yeah, about the Red Campaign. 5% of the profits made from these shoes will go to fighting AIDS! I think this product will rack in a lot of money. After all, these shoes are awesome, and I see a lot of people wearing Converse All Star Shoes in many different colours. Hopefully a lot of people will wear red ones now. Click here to read more about this.
I encourage you to check out the sites I have provided links to about the RED Campaign. They have some really good information, and hopefully you will buy these products. After all, some of the money made from these products will go to AIDS in Africa. I think that’s a really good idea!

October 27 =D

Hey =)

Yesterday, October 27, was awesome :) First off the Junior Girls Volleyball Team had a tournament in Wabowden. The team is made up of me, Toni, Ashley M., Hillary, Katie, Shyla, and Tiffany. Lana is on it too, or at least she will be soon. I can’t wait ’til she is because she’s awesome, and really good at volleyball!

Anyway, we took a van to Wabowden (thanks to Mr. Nogier for driving us.) Mrs. Coulson and Ms. Bradley came too because they’re our coaches, so thanks for organizing this tournament, you two are great coaches! Then we got to Wabowden, and we did our stretches in the hallway before the game. A different girls team was playing anyway so either way, we’d have to wait.

Then we finally got to get on the court and play. We played that game, but I can’t remember if that was the one we won or lost. But then we played another game, and I think that was the one we won! Either way, we got to play a game that would get us in the finals.

But before we played that game, we had a really long break…like around four hours. So we went for lunch, and then we just watched the volleyball games being played at the gym at that time. After a long two hours of waiting, we finally got to play again. We lost the game though, so we didn’t get in the finals :( .  Oh well. On the whole our team played excellent, and we tried our hardest. It was very exciting to watch us play, according to our coaches. But we will play in more tournaments! I think we are going back to Wabowden on November 21, and we have one in Cranberry, too. I don’t know when, though. Personally, I think the four hour break was a bit of what made us lose. We were used to just watching the games and not really into it by then, so maybe if our break wasn’t so long we might’ve won. I think we should’ve got to play sooner…but that’s just my opinion. But like I said, we did GREAT at the tournament, and it was a lot of fun!

Then when I got home my dad phoned from Newfoundland. He’s visiting there for two weeks and comes home on Sunday! :D . After that I unpacked my bags and then my phone rang. It was Darren and Michael and they wanted me to come to the Youth Center. But I was too tired from volleyball to even think about going out…so they just came and got me anyway. We were going to go to Darren’s house but then we met up with Dustin, Kelsey, Shyla, Matthew, and Drew. Drew went uptown, and Shyla said she was going home. I asked if I could follow her, and she said yes. Then everyone else just followed us so we all ended up at Shyla’s house. It was a fun time! :) . Then her parents came home, and we had to go home. Shyla, Darren, Michael, Dustin, and Shyla’s dog Keeta walked me home :P . When we got to the stop sign by the trailor court, I told them they could just go and I could walk up the street myself. Darren, Michael, Shyla, and Keeta left but Dustin walked me home anyway. Then I went on my computer and went to bed; I was really tired by then!

Today I’m going to Toni’s house to work on a paper on Teen Talk for a newspaper that sometimes comes out in our school, I forget what it’s called. Teen Talk was a weekend presented by Eton, Jana, Marina, and Eveline. They were great presenters and I learned a lot. Me, Toni, Elaine, Hillary, Amanda, Ashley M., Ashley H., and Derek went. Some of the things we discussed were body image, communication, healthy relationships, drugs, suicide, sex, and a few other important topics. So a big thanks to those four, Mrs. Elliot for letting us go, and any other adults that helped support this weekend!

Dress Codes

Hey =)

As some of you know, I go to a blog called Second Opinion a lot. I like his posts because you can leave your own opinion and he always has great topics to talk about. I was there one time, reading a post, that was talking about Dress Codes and what we should and shouldn’t be able to wear at school. I’ve decided to make my own dress codes up and you can say how you feel about them!

Strap shirts/tank tops/muscle shirts: Who cares? It’s really not that big of an issue. Some people were worried about bra straps showing. It’s just a bra. Nothing too big or bad. I don’t see much of a problem with them showing. I don’t see the problem with wearing strap or tank tops to school. Guys should be allowed to wear muscle shirts, too. It’s not that big of a deal. If anyone can change my mind about this, please tell me in a comment. I really don’t think my opinion will change, though, unless it’s an extremely super great reason.

Mini Skirts: Umm, this is a tough one. It depends on how mini it is. If it’s too small, no one wants to see that. I don’t think mini skirts should be allowed…just long skirts. Long skirts are okay. But mini skirts might be too tiny, and that may be an issue.

Shoes: There’s a lot to say about shoes. First of all, I think we should be allowed to wear our outdoor shoes in school. It’s different though if you walk in the classroom with a big trail of mud coming behind you. Either clean the shoes or get some indoors. But if your outdoors are pretty clean, I don’t see why not. Another thing is high heels. Sure we should be allowed to wear them in school, but not in gym class. It’s common sense to wear running shoes or sneakers in gym class. I mean, you could easily trip and fall, and that would not be good. But besides gym class, you shoud be allowed to wear high heels in school.

Dying hair: I’ve heard from a number of people about hair dying in different schools. One story I heard was a girl dyed her hair pink, and when she came to school, she was punished and had to do things after school, like janitor stuff. How unfair! Dying your hair should not matter. It’s something you do at home, anyway. It’s none of the school’s business. Dyed hair even looks pretty good sometimes! :D

Piercings/tattoos: This one is a toughie, believe it or not. Well, the tattoos part is, anyway. Piercings shouldn’t matter at school. That’s all I’m saying; I’m not even getting into that one. If you think otherwise please comment and let me know. Anyway, tattoos should be allowed, but if they have swears or they’re inappropriate, they should probably be covered up. That’s normal.

Do you have different opinions on these dress codes? Can you think of more dress codes that should be argued about? Leave a comment letting me know.

Some of these dress codes I’ve made up myself, and some of them I’ve gotten from Second Opinion. A huge thanks to him for the idea! There’s a link to his blog above all of this, and in my Blogroll.

Feudal Society

Hey =)

Every week in school we now have to write two blog posts on a certain topic for marks. This week it’s on Feudal Europe. I already wrote one about my social studies project on Feudal Europe, so I decided to write something about Feudal Europe in general.

One of the most important things in Feudal Europe was the crusades. Since my project has something to do with crusades, I’m going to write about that because I at least know something about them. So here’s some information about it..

The crusades were a series of wars undertaken by western Europeans to regain the Holy Land from the Muslims. These wars lasted over 200 years. Pope Urban II told the knights that they should go fight for the Holy Land, the land where Jesus lived. He thought Christians should have the land where Jesus lived, not the Muslims. There were five crusades.

The first crusade was the People’s Crusade. Before the lords could get an army, many people went to the Holy Land. They were not like an army but more like a mob. This crusade was not very successful. Many were killed during this crusade.

During the second crusade, the first official army was sent. It started in 1097, and two years later in 1099, the Christians captured Jerusalem.

For the third crusade the Christians called upon people from different countries to fight for the Christians. It was such a fierce war that many people left for war and never returned. In 1187 the Muslims recaptured Jerusalem.

The fourth crusade was led by three kings: Frederick I, Phillip II, and Richard I. Although the Christians won a number of battles they did not capture Jerusalem. After a while, they agreed to make peace for five years even though the Muslims still owned Jerusalem.

The last crusade was the Children’s crusade. Children thought they could win the Holy Land by love, but unfortunately many children were taken as slaves and never reached the Holy Land.

..So I hope I didn’t bore you to death :P . This is some information about the crusades in the Middle Ages. It’s also some of the information I have included in my essay.

To learn more about the crusades, click here. It’s a website with a lot of information about the crusades in the Middle Ages.

(I would include a picture with this post but my computer won’t let me for some reason :S )

Social Studies Projects

Hey =)

Lately in class, we’ve been working on social studies to do with the Middle Ages. We had to choose a topic different from everyone elses’ and research about it. My topic is religion. Then we had to turn it into a project (a model, essay, slideshow presentation, etc.) I chose to do an essay and a slideshow presentation. We had to have some forms of representation. I found that most people are either doing a model, essay, blog, website, or a slideshow presentation. I don’t know if anyone is doing anything else different.

In my essay I’ve included information about religion in every day life, the church, monks and nuns, parish and castle priest, bishops, the Pope, friars, and crusades. My slideshow has pretty much the same information, except in pictures. I am reading to the class about each topic. The only thing different about my slideshow presentation is the idea of just putting pictures on it and explaining to the class about each topic, and I’ve included an opening page and an outline page on it. I also didn’t cover anything about religion in every day life in my slideshow, but there’s a lot about it in my essay.

Here is a link to our class wiki. It explains what everyone else in my class is doing for their projects, and it allows you to add ideas for future projects we could do. The password is on the front page, so put whatever good ideas you want. We are using this site for class plans and ideas and we left the password on the front page because we want to see what people from all over the world have to say. They may have some good suggestions!

Tonight =] (October 16)

Hey =)

Tonight was a good time! Today in school me and Toni were talking to Darren about his horses, and how we wanted to see them. So Darren invited us to go and meet them! After supper me and Toni went to Darren’s house. We packed some stuff in his truck and then drove a little way out of town. We got to where the horses were, and they are so cute!! I love them, haha. We got to feed them carrots :) . I was so happy, haha. Then when we sadly left the horses, me and Toni went to Darren’s house for a while. We took some pictures and saw Darren’s dog and two cats. I love his dog! And one of his cats are huge…he’s so cute though, haha. I couldn’t really see the other one though because he was hiding behind the couch. So then me and Darren walked Toni home and then we decided to go to Darren’s house. Me and Darren were almost there when we met up with Hillary. We went to Fran Al’s with her, and then on the way back, we were going to get Lana but she was babysitting next door. So we continued walking and saw Drew coming behind us. He joined us, and then we dropped Darren off at his house. Then Hillary and Drew walked me home…then I took a bath because I smelled of horses, haha. It was all good though because the horses were awesome! Now I’m sitting here, writing this.

4 Day Weekend!

Hey =)

This week we only had two days of school, Tuesday and Wednesday. So we had a four day weekend! Mine was great!

On Thursday night I slept over at Toni’s! First off we watched CSI, it was a really good episode, but it was so sad when Greg Sanders got beat up!! :( Thank goodness he was okay! Anyway, after that we were going to go on the computer but we couldn’t get any internet connection…so we went in Toni’s room and decided to play Ello! That’s like lego for girls…it’s so awesome haha. So we made this pro underwater house, it’s the greatest! Haha. After that hilarious event, we went on the computer because we got internet, and took a few pics of our Ello creation thing, and some of us. Then we went to bed…and in the morning we decorated Toni’s house for Halloween! We aren’t done yet, but the decorations we did get done are awesome! Then we played The Sims 2 on playstation 2, for like three and a half hours…it was so much fun!! Lots of memories, haha. Then I ate supper at Toni’s house, and then after that we got ready and went to the youth center. We brought back a memory of eating a whole pack of Chicklets gum each :P , and we played Uno Stacko!! Then Battleship, pool, air hockey, and ping pong. Then Toni went to the Community Hall to go scrapbooking with her mom I think, and then I went home. I watched “Garfield: A Tail Of Two Kitties” by myself :) . It’s a really funny movie! Haha.

Today (Saturday) I barely did anything except sleep in. I might be going to Toni’s again tonight to play Sims again, haha. Tomorrow I have no idea what I’m doing.

What did you guys do on your four day weekend?

Today && This Week

Hey =)

Today actually wasn’t boring! Me and Nikita went for a walk in the snow :) . We were walking and we almost made it to the beach, when we started talking about movies, and decided that we wanted to watch one! So then we decided on “Just Friends” because I had it at my house. We walked back to my house, got the movie, and then went to Nikita’s. The movie was really funny, haha. Then after that we went on the computer, then I went home for Thanksgiving dinner. It was pretty good. Now I’m sitting here on my laptop writing this.

This week we only have two days of school, Tuesday and Wednesday. Mr. Fisher is gone for both of those days, so we have a substitute. We don’t see Mr. Fisher for nine days!! :P Haha.

So I guess that’s it…TTFN.
