Just Stuff =)

Hey =)

Umm, not much has been new lately. Toni stayed at my house for a week and went home today. I really miss her, I’m used to having her around :( . Oh well, we’re always together so I’ll be seeing her again soon for sure!

We have a math test on Monday…grr. I really do not like the math we’re doing; it’s so hard! Last year in grade seven it was really easy but now in grade eight we are doing much more harder shapes. It sucks! Oh well, hopefully on Monday we’ll be done geometry after our test :) . Maybe?

Greg, a really great friend of mine that moved :cry: , commented on my blog not too long ago. It was really great to hear from him and I really miss him. I can’t wait til he visits again!

So…I guess that’s pretty much it. TTYL :)

PLN

Hey =)

A while back in computer class, we set up accounts on Bloglines. Bloglines allows you to subscribe to sites with RSS, and when you subscribe, it shows you when that site’s been updated and you just have to check it out on your Bloglines account. RSS feeds are needed to subscribe to a site. If that site doesn’t have RSS, you can’t subscribe to it, therefore see when it’s updated.

PLN stands for Personal Learning Network. Everyone in my class has a Bloglines account, therefore we all have a personal learning network. A PLN is a bunch of blogs and/or sites you subscribe to that help you learn.

My PLN has mostly blogs, mostly owned by my classmates because I like to see what’s new with them. I also subscribed to a blog called Second Opinion, because he has a lot of posts that you can comment on and leave your own opinion. I subscribe to mostly blogs because I don’t go on a lot of websites, and pretty much all of the ones I do go on don’t have RSS. I subscribed to a photography site, and I get updates of whenever pictures that come in. I haven’t been commenting very much lately, but on Second Opinion I have been a lot. I am trying to comment on other people’s too though. Especially people around the world…and my classmates or people I know. I haven’t dropped any blogs in my Bloglines, but I might soon if I find that there’s one I don’t like. Who knows.

So…that’s pretty much my PLN. Everyone in my class has one because we all have Bloglines accounts. What’s in your guys’ PLN’s?

Second Opinion

Hey =)

I have been looking at blogs all around the world and in my class, but my favourite blog is still Second Opinion. He has awesome posts, and the best thing is that you can leave your own opinion and see how people think differently!

I was reading this post about the Twin Towers on his blog, and there were a lot of comments there. Everyone had their own opinion, and a lot of people were agreeing and disagreeing with comments. Personally, I think that we should make a big deal about this and have ceremonies. It’s awful what happened to all of those people, whether they be Canadian or American. No one should have to die. I was really young when this happened so I don’t remember a lot about it. All I remember was the planes crashing into the tall buildings on the news. This event should most definitely be remembered, and we should still honor everyone who fought and/or died in this tragic event. You should check out this post, and leave a comment!

Grr

Hey =)

This weekend I didn’t do anything except for catch the flu :( . My throat is really sore, I have a headache, my eyes are burning, and my nose is all stuffed up. It sucks :( .

On Monday Toni is staying at my house for a week while her parents are gone to a meeting in Winnipeg or something. I can’t wait, haha, whenever she stays at my house for a week we always have an awesome time!

Pretty much the only things I did this weekend were clean my room, and do my homework. For homework I had to write out a project idea on our class wiki; check it out and learn more about it by clicking here.

What did you guys do this weekend?

School and Stuff

Hey =)

Lately in school we’ve been doing a bunch of different stuff. On Monday I think, we are going to be starting digital photography! That will be really fun because I like cameras and pictures, haha. In Social Studies we’ve been working on Feudal Europe. We have a wiki started on class plans and ideas; click here to check it out. We have to have ideas for a topic we’ll be working on, and what we’re going to do/make and stuff. I know what I’m going to be dealing with, but I have no idea how I’m going to show it! And as for math, we’ve been working with geometry and angles and such, and it’s so confusing! I get it a little better now, but I still really dislike it!

As for things aside from school, I haven’t been doing much. I went for a walk with Toni and Jordan tonight, we went to Angelina’s and then just walked over to the playground. After that me and Toni said good-bye to Jordan, because we had to go over to the church where her dad was practicing music things. We waited for him there, and we were really giggly! I feel kind of bad, considering he and a few other people have to play at church on Sunday morning, but we had fun! Haha. Then when he was done his music practice at the church, we got a ride home with him. I went to Toni’s house for a while. We just went on the computer and looked at scrapbooks! Fun fun. Since she had to go out of town in the morning, I left so she could get ready and get a good night’s sleep. When I got home I watched the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, I love that movie so much! Now I’m just sitting here, at 1:00 in the morning, writing in my blog.

Anyway…that’s all for now, so bye.

Walk =)

Hey =)

This morning, Mr. Fisher took us for a walk outside in the bush! Isn’t that interesting :) Yup.

We are starting to work with digital photography. Pretty soon, Mr. Fisher is going to give us digital cameras, and we are going to be put in partners. We have to take pictures, close up, of things we find that could be turned into something interesting.

Once we have our pictures, we have to put them on a computer, and use a program called Corel something…and edit them.

Fun :)

So today, he gave us a piece of construction paper, and we had to cut out the center to make a frame. That would be used as our “camera.” Then he took us outside in the bush and behind the Curling Rink, to take “pictures” of things close up and make them interesting. They weren’t real cameras, we just pretended they were and took fake pictures of what things would look like if we really did take them.

I think on Monday we get our cameras and partners. I hope so :D

September 18 Night

Hey =)

Last night, me and Toni went for a walk to the beach. It was a fun time! When we got there we wanted to go on the swings, but they were all twisted up and over the bars, so we couldn’t go on them! Grr. So we decided we were going to fix them! We tried tossing them over the bar but we weren’t strong enough. So, we went hunting for a really long stick and we finally found one! One of us used the stick to try and put the chain over the bar while the other one lifted the swing up to make it go over easier. We almost succeeded too! But we didn’t, sadly. Oh well, at least we can say we tried :)

School (September 19)

Hey =)

Today in school we had to do some math at the end of the day. We had to find perpendicular lines, and do stuff with angles (corresponding angles, alternate angles, etc…) It pretty much drove me up the wall. I hated it! I had the hardest time with it and I just couldn’t get it. I learned it all last year, I was good at it then, but now I’m just plain not good at it anymore. A full summer of the computer really messed my head up.

How Is Mood Created In A Visual Text?

There are many different moods, and different ways of showing them.  If you want to show it in a visual text, there are many things you have to be aware of, and different things you have to do to create it.

For a drawing, there are many things you have to consider while creating the piece.  Colour is a big thing.  Colour helps you create a piece by showing the mood.  If you want a happy piece, bright colours should be used. For depression or anger, darker colours should be used. You have to know which colours to coordinate to create the overall piece.  Lines and shapes are another thing to think about. Depending on the mood helps you decide the shapes and lines. Jagged, thick lines and shapes should be used for a mood like anger or depression.  Swirling, flowing lines should be used for happier pieces. It all depends on the mood.

Photographs are another type of visual text, and another way to express mood.  You have to consider colour. Do you want the photograph to be colourful, or black and white? Black and white usually shows a more depressed, calmer scene. A colourful photograph normally expresses excitement or happiness. There’s not a lot of lines in photographs, but shape is a big thing. You have to think about the shapes and items in a scene, how they’re placed, and what angle they should be at. There’s a lot to consider for photographs.

And last, videos are a form of visual text. Colours in the video almost always express the mood.  If you have a dark scene filled with shadows, then you usually have a scary scene. Dark videos with barely any colour usually express depression, sometimes even anger. If the video is colourful, with a lot of movement, then it’s usually a happy video or an exciting one. Shapes in a video are something else to consider. If you have jagged shapes with straight lines, chances are your mood is anger. If your lines are swirly and have a lot of shapes and sizes, then it’s probably a happy, exciting video. Sometimes it could be depression too. There are a lot of ways to look at it.

This painting is called “Starry Night” by Vincent Van Gogh. I think this mood is calm, and quiet. I think this because it’s mostly dark colours, and it looks like night time. Also, the city below in the painting doesn’t have a lot of action going on, so I think the people are relaxing at home. What mood do you get out of this picture?

Here is a link to Vincent Van Gogh’s website. To see more of his paintings, and to learn more about moods, go there.

This is basically how mood is created with visual text. If you ever have to do something like this, consider the things explained above.

Weekend: September 16 - 17

Hey =)

A very boring weekend! Today (Saturday) I went to Thompson, which I didn’t like because I’m not fond of shopping at all. Oh well, I got my DC shoes :) I love them…haha. I went with my mom, and we drove there. On the way we saw a moose! He was huge! He wouldn’t get off the road, we had to honk the horn loads of times before he actually moved. That’s my interesting story for the weekend. I have no idea what I’m doing tomorrow, but probably nothing fun, that’s for sure. Anyway, I got to go. Bye!
